HP Girls Race to Third in Round Rock

The Highland Park girls finished third in the team standings against elite competition in the varsity gold division at the McNeil Invitational cross country meet on Saturday.

Along the way, the Lady Scots got a peek at the same 5-kilometer course at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock where the 6A state meet will take place on Nov. 4.

Among those hoping to make that return trip are Maddie Heckler and Charlotte Hudson, who each finished in the top 20 individually for the Lady Scots in Saturday’s race.

Meanwhile, the HP boys also faced a top-notch field at the Garmin Milesplit XC Invitational in Denton, placing 23rd as a team in the elite division. Crossing the line 77th individually, freshman Spencer Haag paced the Scots.

Next up, the HP boys will complete the regular season on Oct. 1 at the Nike South Invitational in The Woodlands. The girls will head to the Jesuit Classic at Prestonwood Polo Club in Oak Point for their final tuneup prior to the District 7-6A meet in mid-October.
