North Texas Giving Day 2022: Project Transformation
Editor’s note: In light of North Texas Giving Day, we asked for “elevator pitches” from some of our local nonprofits participating in the big day for our special Giving People section in our September print issues.
Project Transformation North Texas (PTNT) is going on a great adventure for North Texas Giving Day 2022! Our goal is to raise $30,000 to support our afterschool and summer programs which uniquely serve youth in grades 1-12 in underserved areas of Dallas. The mission of Project Transformation North Texas is to transform communities by engaging children, college-age young adults, and churches in purposeful relationships. Your gift on North Texas Giving Day directly supports the children enrolled in our after-school program as they receive a healthy dinner, mentoring, homework help, and reading support from 3 to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday. As our children continue to recover from learning loss due to COVID-19, programs like PTNT are more important than ever and your support makes a huge difference.
PTNT combats learning loss by supporting children and youth during out of school times (after school and summer) so that they can become the thriving leaders of tomorrow. PTNT does this by connecting children and youth from underserved neighborhoods in North Texas with college student mentors in order to provide long-term social emotional and literacy development and, in the process, transform marginalized communities. Here are the words of participants from our summer 2022 program:
- “If I did not go to PT I would have no one to talk about and have friends to talk to, and would not have as much fun as I have at PT.”
- “I learned how to be a friend at PTNT.”
- “It has helped me regain my socializing skills and become more confident in myself.”
- “PT made me more open, and more confident.”
- “Because we get to have fun and not worry about anything. Being around people and making new friends.”
