North Texas Giving Day 2022: Dallas CASA

Editor’s note: In light of North Texas Giving Day, we asked for “elevator pitches” from some of our local nonprofits participating in the big day for our special Giving People section in our September print issues.

Dallas CASA volunteers advocate in the community and courtroom for children in the protective care of the state so they can grow up in safe, permanent homes where they can thrive.

For many children who have experienced abuse or neglect and are living in foster care, their Dallas CASA volunteer is the only consistent adult in their lives during an uncertain time. Dallas CASA volunteers visit the children and work closely with all stakeholders including attorneys, judges, Child Protective Services, a child’s family and teachers, doctors, and therapists. They advocate for children to remain connected to siblings and for social, emotional and educational needs, and healing services. They work to protect children and restore childhoods.

Last year, volunteer Marianne was working with a teenage girl approaching her 15th birthday. When the girl shared with Marianne that she had always dreamed of a beautiful quinceañera, Marianne went to work. She ensured the girl had a beautiful dress, friends donated a cake, and a restaurant agreed to host. Marianne invited everyone who had been involved in the girl’s life, and the girl left her party with the memory that people cared about her and wanted the best for her.

On North Texas Giving Day, you have the opportunity to stand up for children, too. You can tell children they are seen, heard, and valued and that their community wants the best for them.

At Dallas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), we envision a day who all child victims of abuse and neglect can grow up in safe and nurturing home where they can reach their full potential. Please support Dallas CASA on North Texas Giving Day and tell children they and their futures matter.
