Lady Scots Claim Northwest Tourney Title

Highland Park topped some of the state’s premiere programs to win the Northwest ISD Volleyball Classic tournament over the weekend.

The Lady Scots won all nine of their abbreviated matches at the three-day event, culminating with a three-set victory over powerhouse The Woodlands in the championship game on Saturday.

Earlier in the weekend, HP earned pool-play wins over Coppell, Belton, and Frisco Reedy. Then came bracket-play tests against Spring Grand Oaks, Sachse, and Frisco Wakeland.

In the championship bracket, the Lady Scots swept Colleyville Heritage and Prosper before battling to a 25-17, 16-25, 25-17 triumph over The Woodlands.

HP was able to avenge a loss to Flower Mound in the title game at the same tournament last season. The Lady Scots won the event for the first time since 2008, when they finished the year at the Class 5A state tournament.

Sydney Breon was named the tournament MVP, while Harper Hall and Zoe Winford also were honored on the all-tournament team.

The Lady Scots (14-1) will continue their challenging schedule with a nondistrict match at Rockwall on Tuesday, followed by a trip to the Volleypalooza tournament beginning Thursday in Cedar Park. HP will face Cedar Park Vista Ridge, Cibolo Steele, and Pearland in pool play.
