Katy 5K Returns Sept. 8

The annual Katy 5K returns Sept. 8.

The 24th-annual 5K is from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at Reverchon Park. Registration includes access to the Katy picnic featuring food from 30+ restaurants and music from Emerald City band Downtown Fever. For more information and to register, visit the Friends of the Katy Trail website.

“Friends of the Katy Trail is looking forward to hosting our 24th-annual 5K this Sept. 8,” said Amy Bean, Friends of the Katy Trail executive director. “Not only is this event a fantastic race and afterparty, but it also provides crucial funds for the enhancement and upkeep of the Katy Trail. With more than 1.5 million trail visits a year, these funds are more important than ever to keep your Katy Trail running strong. We hope you join us!”

The honorary chairs of the 24th-annual Katy 5K are the Hallam family. The Hallam family and Ben E. Keith Foundation were early donors to help control the Katy Trail and the Katy 5K. Ben E. Keith was also a major donor to the campaign to complete the Katy Trail that concluded in 2020 and, for the 25th anniversary year of Friends of the Katy Trail, the Hallams and Ben E. Keith Foundation are funding two new benches on the Katy Trail.

“The Hallam family is honored to serve as honorary chairs of the 2022 Katy Trail 5K race,” Robert Hallam Jr. said. “Our family and our company have been involved with Friends of the Katy Trail and the Katy 5K for over 20 years. It has been so exciting for us to see the Katy Trail become an essential and beloved Dallas destination, and the Katy 5K continues to be a can’t miss event. We encourage everyone in Dallas and surrounding communities to join us in supporting Friends of the Katy Trail, as we all benefit from their important work maintaining as well as continually enhancing the Katy Trail.”
