First Time’s a Charm: Scots Win Tourney

Highland Park made quite a splash during the first week in program history, winning the varsity boys title with a perfect record at the Ranger Invitational water polo tournament.

The Scots (5-0) defeated Jesuit Dallas, Houston Strake Jesuit, Denton Guyer, and Flower Mound Marcus during their impressive two-day run. Earlier in the week, they topped Hebron 24-10 in their first-ever game.

Meanwhile, host Jesuit finished with a 1-2 mark after falling to HP and Strake Jesuit, then posting a victory over Guyer.

The HP girls started with a win over Guyer before dropping close games against Marcus and Flower Mound at the tournament. The Lady Scots (1-3) lost to Hebron 21-18 in their season opener.

Both HP squads will next compete at a tournament in The Colony on Aug. 19-20. The HP boys and girls will each face Southlake Carroll, Flower Mound, and Hebron in round-robin play.

Jesuit will be in the same tournament, facing opponents including Carroll, Prosper, Denton Ryan, and Rockwall.
