CDC Eases Quarantine Recommendations
Just as schools are getting back in session, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending a move away from strict quarantine measures if exposed to COVID-19 and instead wearing a high-quality mask and testing five days after exposure.
“We’re in a stronger place today as a nation, with more tools — like vaccination, boosters, and treatments — to protect ourselves, and our communities, from severe illness from COVID-19,” said Greta Massetti, Ph.D., MPH, MMWR author. “We also have a better understanding of how to protect people from being exposed to the virus, like wearing high-quality masks, testing, and improved ventilation. This guidance acknowledges that the pandemic is not over, but also helps us move to a point where COVID-19 no longer severely disrupts our daily lives.”
Those who test positive for the virus are still asked to isolate for five days and mask when they have to be around others. The CDC also still recommends those who are symptomatic and suspect they have COVID-19 but don’t yet have test results isolate.
