The Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) honored John Bergner with the Vester Hughes award for his service to the organization.

Bergner, a shareholder in the Dallas office of Winstead PC, has been involved with CFT since 1987, when he joined the CFT Advisory Council.

This award is named for Vester Hughes, a CFT member from 1958 until his passing in 2017. Hughes created the W.W. Caruth Jr. Fund, which continues to give millions of dollars to charities annually.

The award was presented on May 10 during the foundation’s professional seminar for nonprofit financial planning. It was hosted with SMU at the foundation headquarters, 5500 Caruth Haven Lane, and featured Martin Hall from Ropes & Gray LLP and an active member of CFT as the keynote speaker.

CFT works to help those throughout our community by providing health and education services.

Since its founding in 1953, CFT has given over $2 billion back to the community through the 1,200 plus funds the charity manages.
