SKULDUGGERY OF THE WEEK: BAG-GY PANTS

A burglar gave new meaning to the term when he made off with a bag from the Christian Louboutin store in Highland Park Village by stuffing it into his pants before 5:50 p.m. July 16.

HIGHLAND PARK

11 Monday

A jerk rode away in a pink bicycle from the yard of a home in the 3400 block of Dartmouth Avenue at 5:15 p.m.

13 Wednesday

Arrested at 4:31 a.m.: a 20-year-old man for a warrant in the 4800 block of Preston Road. 

Reported at 10:48 a.m.: Sneaky shoplifters swiped a bracelet from a display case in the Valentino store in Highland Park Village after an employee went to get something from the back of the store, then kicked z zzzzz open a drawer to take a wallet from inside. 

A good neighbor noticed sporting equipment used for cricket on the sidewalk in the 4700 block of Abbott Avenue at 11:54 a.m. and told police. 

14 Thursday

Arrested at 12:30 a.m.: a 22-year-old man for a warrant in the 4200 block of Bordeaux Avenue.

A thief took various landscaping equipment including three weed eaters, a Toro push mower, and two Stihl hedge trimmers from a trailer belonging to a landscaping company in the 5100 block of Fairfield Avenue before 11:40 a.m.

A careless driver in a Subaru Outback backed into a Chevrolet Equinox parked near the valet parking area in front of Honor Bar in Highland Park Village before 4:47 p.m. but drove away before providing information. 

15 Friday

Arrested at 2:03 a.m.: a 33-year-old man accused of possession of a controlled substance, fraudulent use or possession of identifying information, and a warrant in the 3200 block of Beverly Drive.

Reported at 11:21 a.m.: a crook took the front license plate from a GMC Sierra pickup parked in the 4200 block of Versailles Avenue.

A good neighbor found a pair of AirPods at the corner of Beverly Drive and Eton Avenue and turned them into police at 8:51 p.m.

16 Saturday

Reported at 10:08 p.m.: a ne’er do well nabbed a diaper bag, prescriptions, crystal decanters, and acrylic trays from inside a GMC Yukon Denali in the 4200 block of Armstrong Parkway.

17 Sunday

Arrested at 9:43 p.m.: a 43-year-old man accused of public intoxication at the intersection of Lomo Alto Drive and Bordeaux Avenue

BONUS SKULDUGGERY: Hay! That’s On Fire! Workers cutting rebar briefly sparked a fire in hay bales at a construction site on Highland Drive between Miramar Avenue and Gillon Avenue Monday afternoon. The portion of Highland Drive was closed from just before 3 p.m. until just before 4 p.m. while crews extinguished the fire.

UNIVERSITY PARK

11 Monday

A scammer took a man’s credit card and used it at the Moody Family YMCA at 1:05 p.m.

Reported at 2:39 p.m.: A fraudster forged a document at a bank in the 3600 block of Caruth Boulevard.

A jerk threatened a woman from the 3400 block of Rankin Avenue before 3:15 p.m.

Reported at 5:30 p.m.: a swindler took $68,750 from a man’s bank account in the 4300 block of Hyer Avenue.

12 Tuesday

A thief took two taillights from a Ford F150 in the 3200 block of Purdue Street before 8:15 a.m. Taillights were also taken from another Ford F150 in the 3100 block of Purdue Street before 7:30 a.m.

13 Wednesday

A crook drove off in an Infiniti QX60 in the 3100 block of Bryn Mawr Drive before 7:10 a.m.

A bold burglar took a Michael Kors bag with $100, $100 worth of jewelry, and cards from a Dodge Charger parked at Bank of Texas in the 6700 block of Preston Road.

14 Thursday

A thief took various tools from a trailer parked in the 3600 block of Lovers Lane before 11:07 a.m.

No time was given for the arrest of a 33-year-old man for a warrant in the 4400 block of Lovers Lane.

15 Friday

A stealer took an iPhone, iPad, a pair of Beats by Dre Pro headphones, and more from a Porsche parked in Snider Plaza before 5:30 p.m.

A pilferer found easy pickings of a bag containing two iPhones, a MacBook Pro, and more from inside an unlocked Mercedes parked in the 3500 block of Westminster Avenue before 5:30 p.m.

16 Saturday

No time was given for the arrest of a 17-year-old accused of possession of a controlled substance in the 4000 block of Marquette Street.

17 Sunday

A jerk grabbed a purse containing two pairs of AirPods, $2,000, cards, and more from the front seat of a Mercedes parked in the 8300 block of Preston Road before 12:42 p.m.
