Dallas Architecture Forum To Host Panel Discussion on Single-Family Housing
The Dallas Architecture Forum will host a virtual panel discussion about challenges and opportunities for single-family housing in Dallas May 25.
The free event will be at 6:30 p.m. May 25 via Zoom. It’s part of an annual series of panel discussions hosted by the Dallas Architecture Forum.
Architect Kate Aoki, who’s also the head of exhibition design at the Dallas Museum of Art, will moderate the panel discussion. Panelists will include Lawrence Agu III, a chief planner for the city of Dallas’ Planning and Urban Design Department, Bang Dang, an assistant professor of practice at the University of Texas at Arlington in the architecture program and founding partner of the firm Far + Dang, and Julia Lindgren, an assistant professor at the University of Texas at Arlington teaching design-build studios and seminars focused on social equity and community engagement. Prior to joining UTA, Julia was a member of Hester Street’s Leadership Team where she worked on projects ranging in scale from a modest transformation of a men’s shelter yard to re-designing the way New York state does code enforcement.
“This Panel will look at issues impacting affordability, accessibility, design and the role that the City of Dallas does and should play to achieve greater equity in housing,” a program description read. “In a city that has fiercely protected its single-family culture, how will residential development address the balance between single-family and multi-family in equitable, sustainable, and meaningful ways? What IS the future of the single-family typology, and how can we be a city that addresses the needs of the many while remaining economically healthy? Join us as we discuss the policies, design thinking, and initiatives surrounding the important questions of housing in the shifting needs and demographics of Dallas.”
