Clark, Biediger Lead HP Golfers to State

Highland Park will have double the opportunity to defend its Class 5A boys golf state title next week.

The Scots will send two full teams to the state tournament after finishing first and third in the Region II tournament in Rockwall. Christian Clark was the regional gold medalist.

Five of Clark’s teammates finished inside the top 10, including a fourth-place tie involving Robert Boyce, Will Blankenship, and Brooks Simmons. Joe Stover placed eighth, and Mack Duvall tied for ninth.

The Scots have won their last six tournaments as a team, including the 5A State Preview event in early March at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown, the same course where they will compete on May 9-10.

Clark and Stover were each members of the first-place team for HP a year ago, while Preston Cooper was the individual state champion. The Scots have won four consecutive 5A crowns dating back to 2017 and have 21 championships in program history.

Meanwhile, the HP girls also earned a Region II title in dominating fashion and will send a full squad to state on May 16-17 at White Wing.

Sophie Biediger continued her sensational senior season by winning the regional gold medal with a score of 67-68—135, setting a new course record at Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club.

Biediger, who has signed with SMU, finished sixth at last year’s state tournament, while HP was eighth in the team standings.
