Rutledge, Scots Sprint to 13-5A Titles
Thanks to several standout individual performances, Highland Park earned boys and girls team titles at the District 13-5A track and field meet on Wednesday at Hanby Stadium in Mesquite.
John Rutledge won the 200 and ran on two triumphant relays for the Scots. In the 4×100 and 4×200, he teamed with Jay Cox, Beau Lilly, and Ben Croasdale.
Girls event winners for HP included Ellie Preston (1,600), Sara Cavey (3,200), Emory Rhodes (100 hurdles), Savannah Hinze (300 hurdles), Mason Prather (discus), and Callie DeShryver (high jump). The Lady Scots also took the 4×400 relay with the quartet of Preston, Parker Herzog, Lily Hart, and Kayla Dickerson.
The top four finishers in each event qualified for the area meet, featuring athletes from 13-5A and 14-5A, which is slated for April 21 at the same venue. Then comes the Region II meet on April 29-30 in Arlington.
