Clark, Biediger Win District Golf Titles
For Highland Park golfers, the District 13-5A boys and girls tournaments proved to be little more than a postseason warmup.
Both HP squads will take a dozen competitors to the Region II meet beginning April 18 in Rockwall after dominating the district competition this week.
The HP boys claimed the top two spots in the team standings, with Christian Clark as the individual champion following rounds of 72-68—140 over two days at Rusted Rail Golf Course in Crandall.
Charles Nelson, a freshman, took the runner-up spot at 72-72—144, followed by Joe Stover at 77-70—147. Clark and Stover were part of the winning HP Blue quintet that finished a collective 20 strokes ahead of their Gold counterparts. Greenville was another 120 shots back in third.
Other regional qualifiers for the HP boys — who are the defending 5A state champions — include Jackson Muncy, Blake Goodnight, Mack Duvall, Brooks Simmons, Martin Kemp, Preston Cooper, Robert Boyce, Colin Pletcher, and Will Blankenship.
In the girls competition, HP senior Sophie Biediger claimed the individual 13-5A crown with a two-round total of 68-74—142. In addition to the top two places in the team standings, the Lady Scots filled the top several spots on the individual leaderboard, including Landry Saylor in second place and Grace Heiss in third.
Also headed to regionals for the Lady Scots are Claire Wiebe, Tatum Thomason, Iris Song, Daisy Murphy, Katherina Chen, Olivia Coker, Allison McCain, Indie Lane, and Jordan McGinley.
