Fun Things to Do (and Eat) This Weekend

The State Fair of Texas ended 145 days ago and it’s 195 days until the next one, so if you’re jonesing for a Fletcher’s Original Corny Dog, visit the Knox Street’s Pop-Up located at 3311 Knox St. – just steps away from The Katy Trail – tomorrow Saturday, March 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fletcher’s will be onsite with their 22’ mobile kitchen selling corny dogs, funnel cakes, and lemonade.

J.Rae’s is turning one and they are hosting a party for themselves (as they should) tomorrow from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. The celebration includes free mini-cookies (no purchase required), a free cake ball or cupcake with every purchase, adorable themed sugar cookies for purchase, and fun balloon installations for Insta-worthy photos.

You can also get in on some cookie decorating that starts at 3 p.m. and a birthday champagne toast at 4 p.m. This sweet little bakery is located at The Pavilion on Lover’s Lane next to Interabang Books.

The Galleria has it going on, with these fun activities this weekend:

Free family STEM experience with the Dallas Arboretum – as a part of their month-long exhibit and celebration, master gardeners and educators from Galleria Dallas will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Level One across from Sephora. No advance reservation required! More info here.

Dolly Parton may have declined a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this week, but Galleria Dallas is still celebrating America’s favorite cowgirl in celebration of her newest album. Galleria Ice Skating Center is hosting Skate with Dolly & Friends from 3-5 p.m. Costumes encouraged! Photos and video available. More info here.

Next week looks fun, too.

Eataly always has a Buzz Sociale going on but next week is special because March 21 is Tiramisu Day, so it is celebrating this creamy, delicious dessert all week. From Monday til the 27th, you can pop into Eataly for new Tiramisù flavors to bring home, special Tiramisù desserts in the restaurants, and even a Tiramisù cappuccino in Caffe Lavazza. I personally would appreciate it if someone would give me a recipe for a Tiramisu Martini, wouldn’t that be good?

Tiramisù translates to ‘pick-me-up’ and is traditionally made with ladyfingers dipped in espresso, layered with a rich creamy mixture, and finished with a generous sprinkling of cocoa powder. Eataly’s recipe has been created by Katia Delogu, Head of Pastry Chef Eataly North America. According to Katia and Eataly, Tiramisu is “simple to make” and that might be true but why make it when you can buy the good stuff?

 A little lagniappe . . .

Cry Wolf is a super-hot restaurant and I finally know why.  Located in a little strip center on Gaston anchored by Domino’s, this seven-table restaurant is led mostly by Flora Street alumni who prepare approachable fine dining such as black bass with Romanesco, peanut puree, and aged sherry gastrique that was such a compelling mix of flavors.  It was exotic but comforting. I also loved the duck confit with saffron aioli, Castelvetrano olives, and hazelnut. Great menu and wine list, get reservations or try your luck sitting at the bar.  It’s a cool place with great hospitality. Loved it and I wish them all the very best.
