HP Golfers Set for Drive to State

Highland Park dominated the Class 5A Region II boys golf tournament this week, to the extent that the Scots will send two full teams to state.

HP’s top quintet won the two-day event by 16 shots over Texarkana Texas High on Thursday at Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club, while the Scots’ secondary squad took third.

The top three teams advance to the state tournament on May 17-18 in Georgetown, where HP is the three-time defending champion.

HP senior Hudson Weibel was the individual runner-up, finishing one shot behind Texas High’s Thomas Curry. The Scots placed four golfers in the top five, including Joe Stover and Mack Duvall, who tied for third. Next up was Christian Clark in fifth place.

In the girls tournament, HP came in second in the team standings, with junior Sophie Biediger posting a runner-up individual finish. Landry Saylor was fifth, followed by Sarah Rogers in sixth.

The Lady Scots also advanced as a team to the state tournament, which will be May 10-11 on the same course at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown.
