Blue Wave Race to Pre-Holiday Victories
Highland Park finished 2020 on a high note by winning its final quad meet of the calendar year against Carrollton Newman Smith, Ranchview, and Royse City.
The HP girls swept the podium in multiple events, led by individual gold medalists such as Sarah Ho (200 freestyle), Campbell Schultz (50 freestyle and 500 freestyle), Katherine Huang (100 backstroke), Sophia Pan (200 individual medley), Alicia Bi (100 butterfly), and Sophia Hemschot (100 breaststroke). The Blue Wave also claimed all three relays.
HP also earned the top spot in the boys team standings. Individual event winners included Alex Handley (200 freestyle), Jack Friedman (50 freestyle), Brock Wyma (100 freestyle), Bennett Handler (500 freestyle), Marcus Lanio (100 backstroke), Can Caglar (100 breaststroke), and Dash Wolford (diving). In the boys relays, the Blue Wave were 3-for-3 and swept two podiums.
In their prior meet, the Blue Wave scored a decisive victory against The Colony in both boys and girls action.
Individual gold medalists for the girls were Bi (200 freestyle), Ho (200 IM), Maddy Helton (50 freestyle), Huang (100 butterfly and 100 backstroke), Lindsey Hosch (100 freestyle), and Pan (100 breaststroke).
On the boys side, HP winners included Caglar (200 freestyle), Friedman (50 freestyle), Mitchell Price (100 backstroke), Handley (200 IM), Campbell Whann (100 butterfly), and G.B. Stalnaker (500 freestyle).
After a break for the holidays, HP will host St. Mark’s and Hockaday in a dual meet on Jan. 12. That will be the final tuneup prior to the District 13-5A meet on Jan. 22.
