Hudson, HP Take First Place in Mansfield

Despite winning just one event, the Highland Park girls emerged with the team title at the Legacy Bronco Relays on Feb. 22 in Mansfield.

A handful of medal performances enabled the Lady Scots to edge Mansfield Legacy and Denton Guyer atop the team standings. Charlotte Hudson won gold in the 3,200 meters, followed by teammate Alli Grace Ott in second.

Other medalists for HP included Cameron Fawcett (second in 800 and 1,600), Elle Thompson (second in 400), Hattie Speicher (third in triple jump), and Alie Lavish (third in high jump). HP also placed second in the 4×200 relay and third in the 4×400 relay.

It was an improved showing for the Lady Scots after a third-place outing in the season opener at the Newman Smith Relays on Feb. 15 in Carrollton. At that meet, HP got silver medals from Fawcett (3,200) and Erin Harper (triple jump), and bronze medals from Fawcett (800), Thompson (400), and Claire Cochran (100 hurdles). The Lady Scots also won the 4×100 relay with the quartet of Harper, Cochran, Abigail Schott, and Ella Patterson.

On Saturday, HP will head to the Coppell Relays, followed by the annual Tracy Wills Invitational on March 7 at Germany Park.
