HP Alum Thornton Keeps Raising the Bar
Highland Park High School graduate Alexandra Thornton, now a freshman at the University of Utah, recently won her fourth USA Weightlifting national championship.
Thornton set new personal records in the snatch, the clean and jerk, and her overall score at the Junior National Championships in Pleasanton, California.
She lifted 189 pounds (86 kilograms) in the snatch and 240 pounds (109 kg) in the clean and jerk, for a total of 429 pounds (195 kg). Thornton was successful on all six of her lifts at the meet.
