UPDATE: Mother, Newborn ‘Stable’ After CVS Shooting
UPDATE: A mother and her newborn baby boy remain hospitalized in critical but stable condition after a shooting Saturday morning at the CVS store at Mockingbird Lane and U.S. 75, near SMU, according to the University Park Police Department.
The masked robber who shot the eight-months pregnant CVS employee twice Saturday morning is still at large, Assistant Chief Jim Savage announced on Sunday. The woman gave birth at the hospital after the shooting.
“The family is requesting privacy. We will release their name at a later date and after we receive permission from the family to do so,” Savage said.
“Investigators continue to follow developing leads,” he said. “Video from the store and shopping center continue to be reviewed and processed; however will not be released at time. Investigators state there is sensitive information contained on the video that could compromise their investigative efforts. We hope to be able to release the video soon.
“Thank you for your prayers and concerns for the family and for your patience,” Savage said.
Officers responded at 6:39 a.m. Nov. 2 to reports of shots fired at the store.
University Park Fire Department paramedics took the injured woman to Presbyterian Hospital, where she was admitted to surgery immediately upon arrival.
The other employee in the store at the time was not injured.
The robber, described as 6-feet tall and wearing heavy dark-colored winter clothing with a hood and his face covered, demanded money before shooting and then fled east on foot, police said.
No money was taken.
University Park Police reported around 5:30 p.m. Nov. 2 that the woman delivered her baby.
SMU police increased patrols on campus after the shooting, according to an announcement on Twitter.
