Ursuline, Covenant Take TAPPS Titles

Ursuline’s Amanda Hogan won the Class 6A girls individual title at the TAPPS state cross country meet on Saturday in Waco.

Hogan completed the 3.2-kilometer course in 12 minutes, 10 seconds. The sophomore led the Bears to a runner-up finish behind Houston St. Agnes in the team standings. Two Ursuline teammates, Katherine Reynolds and Devon Vopni, also cracked the top 10.

Hogan, who was seventh at the state meet a year ago, claimed a title in the 1,600 meters at the state track meet last spring.

In Class 3A, the Covenant boys cruised to their fourth consecutive state title by sweeping the podium with the trio of William Peters, Jack Rowland, and Seth MacKinnon. Peters ran the 5K course in 17:23, which was 20 seconds clear of Rowland.

Meanwhile, Covenant’s Sophie Davis won the 3A girls event in 13:06, with the Knights placing second as a team.
