Alcuin Announces 100 Percent IB Diploma Pass Rate

Alcuin School announced that, for the second consecutive year, graduates have received a 100 percent pass rate for the 2018-2019 International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.

This milestone puts Alcuin among a few select schools in the United States and internationally to achieve this perfect score, compared to the world IB pass rate of 78.4 percent.

Alcuin’s Class of 2019 has received offers of admission from research institutions and premier liberal arts colleges from across the country, including Bucknell University, Texas A&M, Chapman University, Purdue University, Clemson University, and more. Alcuin’s 2019 graduates have received over $1.2 million in scholarships, and join an alumni community of more than 1.7 million graduates in 152 countries worldwide.

“It has been an amazing journey for the Class of 2019, and as our second graduating class they are truly among Alcuin’s educational trailblazers,” said Walter Sorensen, Alcuin head of school“Given the level of rigor and dedicated study required to do well in the IB Diploma, I continue to be exceedingly proud of the results for our graduates.”

In order to earn the IB Diploma, students must take six IB courses (at least three of them over two years), score a total of at least 24 points on cumulative exams, complete a 4,000-word extended essay, pass a theory of knowledge class, and demonstrate a two-year commitment to creativity, activity, and service.

For students who meet these criteria, there are many benefits associated with earning the IB Diploma. Evidence shows that IB Diploma Programme students tend to go on to tertiary study at higher rates than their peers, are admitted more often to selective institutions, and tend to perform better in their post-secondary studies, including higher rates of post-secondary education.

According to Sorensen, the students’ success is attributed to their dedication, resilience and hard work and these academic results are a real credit to this remarkable group of high achievers.

“Our exceptional Montessori and IB education provides two world-class curricula with a life-enriching experience that cultivates the potential of our students from 18 months to 18 years old,” Sorensen said. “Alcuin inspires innovative thinkers and passionate learners, and we know that there is no limit to what our students can achieve. I am truly delighted for yet another year with 100 percent pass rate.  Alcuin remains committed to helping our students achieve outstanding levels of academic excellence as our IB program continues to flourish.”
