Dallas Public Library: No More Fines

You can now rest easy when checking out a book at the Dallas Public Library.

The Dallas City Council recently approved the library’s idea to eliminate overdue fines. You also won’t be charged for a replacement card – which previously cost $4 – or for failure to present your library card – $1.

What we gain, says the library, is a bit more equity. There are over 650,000 library card holders right now, and over half have blocked accounts with more than $5 in fees.
