BREAKING: Miller files for Dallas council seat opposite incumbent Gates
Former Dallas mayor Laura Miller has gone back and forth with current councilmember Jennifer Gates over the state of the Preston Center garage, the St. Michael’s and All Angels proposed development, and Planned Development PD-15, among other things. Now, the two will face off in the race for a city council seat.
Miller filed Friday to run for Place 13 on the council, currently held by Gates, who is finishing her third term.
Long rumored to run for a seat, Miller had until 5 p.m. Friday to file. She needed just 25 signatures on the petition to be on the ballot.
Miller served as mayor from 2002 through 2007, and decided not to run for re-election. She was the third woman to serve as mayor of Dallas. If elected, it would be her second stint on the city council; she served beginning in 1998 until her mayoral run.
Three more file for mayor’s seat
Thursday saw a flurry of activity concerning the mayoral election, as three more residents filed to run for the spot soon to be vacated by Mike Rawlings.
In addition to the seven candidates that already filed, these filed on Valentine’s Day: Michael B. Albon, Stephen S. Smith, and Jason Villalba.
The total list of candidates now includes Albon, Smith, Villalba, Albert C. Black Jr., Regina Montoya Coggins, Scott Griggs, Eric Johnson, Alyson Y. Kennedy, Debra L. McBee, and Miguel E. Solis.
