Lions, Hornets Eye SPC Hoops Crowns

Last year, Houston-area schools swept the team titles in every sport during the SPC winter championships. Some local programs would like to reverse that trend this weekend.

The meet in Fort Worth will produce champions on Saturday in boys and girls basketball, soccer, swimming, and boys wrestling.

In boys basketball, St. Mark’s will aim for its first league title in almost a decade as the top seed from the North Zone. Defending champion Houston Christian is the other co-favorite.

On the girls side, Greenhill has perhaps the best chance to unseat two-time defending champion Kinkaid. The Hornets are seeking their first crown since 2014.

St. Mark’s and Hockaday each will look to earn SPC titles after finishing first in the North Zone standings during the regular season. Neither has taken home the trophy since 2013.
