HP Crushes Adamson in Playoff Opener

After rolling through District 11-5A play without being challenged, the first playoff competition was no different for Highland Park.
The Lady Scots dominated Adamson 74-33 on Monday in a Class 5A Region II bi-district game at Ellis Davis Field House.
The victory sends HP and its 13-game winning streak into an area round matchup against Frisco Centennial, which will tip off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Coppell.
The Lady Scots (22-10) started Monday’s contest with a 24-2 run, including 14 points from sophomore Ella Patterson, and never looked back. Patterson finished with a team-high 22 points, and outscored the entire Adamson team before halftime by an 18-17 margin.
The game also provided some valuable postseason experience for a young HP roster consisting mostly of freshmen and sophomores. All 10 players saw significant minutes and scored.
“They could get their feet wet and get the nerves out,” said HP head coach Nicole Fleming.
The Lady Scots continued to dominate in the paint and on the glass, using aggressive defense to extend the margin to 40 points over the Lady Leopards (11-15) with just under three minutes remaining.
Riley Mae Herrod added 14 points for HP, while Madison Visinsky contributed 13. Adamson sophomore Ashley Gonzalez led all scorers with a remarkable 27 of her team’s 33 points.
In the next round, the Lady Scots will face their toughest test in more than six weeks against Centennial (24-7), which topped Denison 61-37 on Monday.
“We’re ready for it. Our preseason schedule exposed them to some really solid teams,” Fleming said. “They know what it takes.”
