Blue Wave Preps for Regional Meet
Highland Park began the defense of its Class 5A boys swimming title in earnest over the weekend with a runner-up finish in the team standings at the District 12-5A meet in Allen.
The Blue Wave won the girls title at the district meet and also qualified several swimmers for the Class 5A Region III meet, which begins Thursday with the diving competition at Eubanks Natatorium in Frisco.
Individual event district champions included Peter Paulus (boys 50 freestyle), Alex Stidham (boys 100 freestyle), Max Van Cauwelaert (boys 100 backstroke), Henry Wang (boys 100 breaststroke), Lindsey Hosch (girls 200 freestyle), Maddy Helton (girls 100 backstroke), and Katherine Huang (girls 50 freestyle).
Swimming preliminaries will take place on Friday, and finals are set for Saturday. The top qualifiers from regionals will advance to the state meet on Feb. 15-16 in Austin.
