The Preston Hollow Women’s Club recently gathered to listen to fellow resident Doug Box discuss the impact of Dallas, a TV series that first aired 40 years ago.

Dallas was a CBS soap opera that told the story of the Ewing family, known as much for their oil fortune as their bitter feuding and schemes. Over the course of the show’s 17 years on the air, the show was included in the TIME’s “100 Best TV Shows of All-TIME” and influenced both national and international perspectives of the city.

In the show’s first season, filming was carried out on the Box family ranch in Frisco.

During the presentation, Box spoke on how Dallas has helped shaped the city, generational wealth and told stories of his family following the death of his father, NFL-champion and oil baryon Cloyce Box.

The timely topic for the October meeting followed Texas Monthly’s recent issue celebrating the television show’s 40th anniversary.
