Texas Discovery Gardens celebrated the 2018 Flora Award honorees on Sept. 20 at the home of Stephen and Karen Jones – son and daughter-in-law of Dallas Cowboy’s owner Jerry Jones.

Janet Smith, Bettye Slaven, and Marilyn Waisanen.

The award went to Allie Beth and Pierce Allman, operators of reality company Allie Beth Allman & Associates. Among those in attendance were agents Doris Jacobs and Lillie Young, 2017 Flora honorees Marilyn Waisanen, Janet Smith and Bettye Slaven, TDG Chairman of the Board Michael Bosco, and the Flora co-chairs Kelly Cantu Dees and Laura Chancellor Black. Dick Davis, executive director of TDG, Dick Davis, noted that it was “a great honor” for TDG to spotlight the Allman’s for “their lifetime of civic duty to Dallas.”

“Through Flora’s fundraising, TDG is able to offer world-class garden expertise with the new management of Fair Park to combat the overwhelming amount of asphalt,” he said. “Through native, organically grown plants we can further foster beauty and pollination in this popular tourist attraction and way beyond.”
