Reenan Wrestles for Spot on World Team
Park Cities native Nick Reenan, a sophomore wrestler at North Carolina State, will compete this weekend for a spot on the prestigious USA World Team.
Reenan will face Penn State’s David Taylor in a best-of-three championship match in the 86-kilogram weight class of the Final X Series on Saturday in College Station, Pennsylvania. The winner will become part of the American squad that will travel to the World Wrestling Championships in October in Hungary.
Reenan advanced to face Taylor by winning his division at the World Team Trials tournament, which featured some of the top freestyle wrestlers in the country. Reenan defeated the top two seeds, Joe Rau and Rich Perry, during his title run.
Earlier this year, Reenan finished third in the 184-pound weight class at the U.S. Open tournament after winning six consecutive matches. For the Wolfpack, he finished 21-4 last season and won three tournaments.
Reenan competed for Highland Park as a high school freshman, when he was a perfect 50-0 and earned a Class 4A state title. Then he transferred to Wyoming Seminary, a college preparatory school in Pennsylvania, where he was part of that nationally recognized program for the next three years.
