Jesuit’s Towns Makes History in Hurdles
Jesuit senior Parker Towns proved his athletic ability during the fall as the dual-threat quarterback for one of the Dallas area’s most prolific offenses.
Over the weekend, the Rice University signee reaffirmed his athletic prowess by winning the 300 hurdles at the prestigious Jesuit-Sheaner Relays at Postell Stadium. The meet, now in its 54th year, typically attracts some of the top programs in Texas and surrounding states.
Towns won the event in 38.90 seconds, becoming the first Jesuit sprinter to earn a gold medal at the meet since 2008. His time, which barely beat out runner-up Antwane Johnson of McKinney, was less than a second off a school record that has stood since 1982.
Meanwhile, Jesuit’s Collin Lark won the pole vault by clearing a height of 15 feet. The senior earned the first victory for the Rangers in a field event at the Jesuit-Sheaner Relays since 2012, when Jeff Bartlett won the shot put.
Towns also placed fifth in the 110 hurdles for the Rangers, who finished in a respectable 11th place in the team standings. DeSoto was victorious in the girls division and the 6A boys division, while Lancaster claimed the 5A boys crown.
In the girls division, Hockaday junior Adoette Vaughan set a new meet record by winning the 3,200 in 10:49.89. And in 5A boys, Greenhill junior Jacob Herrscher took the pole vault title.
