After a perfect season in 2017, Highland Park already has a minor blemish on its record this year. But that’s of little long-term consequence to the Lady Scots.

The defending Class 5A state champions opened their season with a 1-1 tie against Cedar Park on Jan. 5 at the annual Scot Classic tournament at Highlander Stadium. Maja Davison scored her first goal for the Lady Scots.

In the other two tournament games, HP defeated San Antonio Alamo Heights 1-0, with Sierra Jones getting the only goal, and defeated Lake Travis 2-0 behind two goals from Rachel Wasserman.

On the boys side, HP dropped two of its three tournament games. The Scots defeated Adamson 1-0, but lost to Plano John Paul II 3-2 and to Sunset 3-1 after holding a halftime lead in both games. Jack Hamilton scored twice for HP during the weekend, while Landon Gwinn and Drew Wright also added goals.

The Lady Scots will travel to the Round Rock ISD tournament this week, where they will face Tomball Memorial on Thursday, Belton on Friday, and Klein on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the boys will head to the Governor’s Cup tournament in Georgetown, where they will play the host team in addition to matchups against Thomas Jefferson and Conroe.
