Scots Surge Past Poteet in OT
Highland Park needed overtime to hold off a Mesquite Poteet rally and secure its first District 15-5A victory on Tuesday. The Scots claimed a 60-57 win behind 22 points from Preston Landes.
HP regained some momentum after a recent five-game losing streak that included dropping three of four games at the Allen Holiday Invitational last week. The Scots (12-8, 1-1) fell to Rowlett, Richardson Berkner, and Rockwall before defeating Sherman in their finale at the three-day event.
The tournament also marked the season debut for a trio of players from HP’s state championship football team — Carson Bryant, Finn Corwin, and Prince Dorbah — who helped bolster the depth on a team that has been shorthanded because of injuries.
Next up, the Scots will travel to Forney on Friday before returning home on Jan. 9 to face Royse City.
