Oliai Paces Lady Scots to Gold in McKinney
Led by freshman Sophia Oliai, Highland Park cruised to the girls team title in the Class 6A division at a cross country meet on Saturday at Myers Park in McKinney — the same site as next month’s District 15-5A meet.
Oliai earned her first individual title by completing the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 45 seconds. She was one of five HP runners in the top 10, including Maddy Stephens, Cameron Fawcett, Grace O’Keefe, and Annemarie Whalen.
A second HP team won the 5A division, paced by a runner-up individual finish by Julia Helton. The Lady Scots also was triumphant in the JV race to complete a sweep.
On the boys side, HP finished 11th in the team standings on Saturday in a meet hosted by Southlake Carroll at Bob Jones Park. Brett Jacot led the Scots with a time of 17:44.
The HP girls will return to action on Sept. 16 at Gerault Park in Flower Mound, while the boys will race at Norbuck Park.
