Byron Nelson Raises $5.8M for Momentous Institute

The Salesmanship Club announced on Aug. 25 the net proceeds from the 2016 AT&T Byron Nelson golf tournament held in May. This year’s $5.8 million brings the PGA TOUR event’s total amount raised to more than $149 million since its inception in 1968.

All proceeds from the Byron Nelson benefit Momentous Institute, the lab school in Oak Cliff owned and operated by the Salesmanship Club since 1920.

“The proceeds from this tournament yield a lifetime of change for the kids and families we serve through Momentous Institute,” Park Cities resident Guy Kerr, Momentous Institute’s board chair, said in a press release.

“Every person who has a hand in making this tournament a success is part of a larger effort to ensure that more kids and family members have access to the mental health and education services they need.”

Momentous serves more than 6,000 kids and family members every year through their therapeutic and educational services. School districts including Fort Worth ISD have begun implementing Momentous’ educational training program based on their years of research on social and emotional health in children.

Each year, Momentous Institute fifth-graders have the opportunity to serve as Junior Caddies for the pros at the tournament. Kai (photo above) caddied for Pro-Am champion Sergio Garcia and was pretty excited to see him win.

“We are incredibly grateful to our title sponsor, AT&T, and our partners who helped make this another successful year for our tournament and, ultimately, for Momentous Institute,” this year’s tournament chairman Tim Marron said in the release. “It is humbling to see the results of everyone’s hard work come together to benefit our Club’s longstanding mission to change kids’ lives.”

The 2017 AT&T Byron Nelson will be held May 15-21 at TPC Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas in Irving.
