HP to Spray For Skeeters Thru Weekend

Weather permitting, the Town of Highland Park’s Parks Department will begin truck-mounted ground spraying for mosquitoes tonight. They expect to spray tomorrow and Sunday nights as well.

Traps on the east side of town (areas C and D) were unacceptably full of adult skeeters, according to town spokesman Lance Koppa. None of the samples tested by Highland Park and Dallas County Health and Human Services were positive for West Nile Virus.

Spraying should occur between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., unless the wind speed is more than 10 mph and my chanting of “Rain, rain, go away…” fails.

During spraying, the town urges residents to remain inside with their furry friends. To further keep their pets safe, be sure to clean any bowls left outside during spraying. Don’t forget to dump your bird baths and clean out your clogged gutters while you’re at it.

Koppa’s last reminder: Free mosquito dunks are available at Town Hall; and should you want it, you can call 214-521-4161 to arrange a free inspection of your yard. Oh, and don’t forget your bug repellent!!
