HPHS Seniors Named Tom Landry Scholars

Five Highland Park High School seniors are among the latest Tom Landry Classic scholarship recipients: Football players Matthew Barge, Tyler Vincent, and Kemp Sauer, cheerleader Camille McSherry, and Highland Belle Kate Thompson. The students received their awards on April 18.

The annual Classic was held the weekend of August 29, during which the Scots held off a rally by Frisco Centennial for a 28-26 win.

To be eligible for the Landry scholarship, a student must be a 12th-grade participant in the Classic. Recipients are chosen based on academics, community service, and leadership, according to Kris Cumnock, the Executive Director of the Classic.

Recipients were accompanied by an educator of their choosing who’s had a positive influence on their high school career. According to Cumnock, the HP students chose Roseanne Leediker, John Hinton, Lisa Seaman, and Darcy Young.

Editor’s Note: Kate Thompson was left out of the original post due to an oversite error made by the Classic.
