HP Students Practice Diplomacy at UNT
Highland Park High School’s Model UN team was named best delegation at the 2016 North Texas Invitational Model UN conference at UNT April 2, where they competed against six high schools.
The HP team – senior Stanton Geyer, juniors Elle Saliba and Abby Warren, and sophomores Sophia Kanaan, Carmen Santiago, and Bhavana Thota – represented Uruguay and Germany in committee sessions and caucuses.
The team also won four individual awards. Geyer was voted best delegate by the security council, and Kanaan was voted best delegate by the general assembly.
The UNT Model International Organization holds weekly discussions on campus and host an annual NTIMUN conference for high school students. Their newest addition is a North Texas High School Model Arab League (NTHMAL), where students meet to discuss defense and security, regional stability, and economic integration.
