This year, Genesis Women’s Shelter & Suport’s 23rd annual luncheon will feature a keynote speaker people will likely recognize from his iconic role as the comedic Madea.
Actor and director Tyler Perry was born into poverty and came from a household impacted by abuse. Despite these hardships, Perry persevered, becoming a playwright, and eventually the businessman and entertainment star we know today. Perry, will share his story at the luncheon at the Hilton Anatole on May 6.
“It is our greatest hope that the Genesis Annual Luncheon, highlighted this year by the awe-inspiring story of Tyler Perry, helps those experiencing domestic violence know that there is indeed help and hope for them to have the abuse-free lives they deserve,” Genesis CEO Jan Langbein said in a press release.
With the proceeds from the luncheon, Genesis can provide emergency shelter, safety, and counseling services to more than 1,600 women and children each year. Individual tickets begin at $175.
