Lady Scots Blank Midway to Advance
Highland Park quickly dismissed any speculation that it spent all of its postseason energy during a second-round upset of Sachse.
On Tuesday, the Lady Scots rolled past Waco Midway 4-0 in a Class 6A Region II quarterfinal in Waco behind two goals from Riley Malone.
HP is now two wins away from its fourth state tournament appearance in the past five seasons. The Lady Scots (21-3), who were the 6A runner-up a year ago, will face unbeaten Klein on Friday in the regional semifinals in Round Rock.
Klein (22-0-2) is ranked nationally by at least one poll, just as Sachse was before the Lady Scots eliminated the Lady Mustangs 2-1 in overtime last week.
So while HP might be an underdog again on Friday, it’s a role that has suited the Lady Scots thus far.
In the Midway game, Sarah O’Neal and Savanna Jones added goals for the Lady Scots, who have outscored opponents by a combined 34-1 during a current seven-game winning streak.
Klein defeated Round Rock 1-0 on Tuesday. The winner of Friday’s regional semifinal will face either Rockwall or Round Rock Westwood on Saturday with a trip to state on the line.
In a region that’s been filled with upsets so far, HP wouldn’t mind seeing another one on Friday.
