DISD High School Students Prepare to Face Real World

About 930 students from 47 public and charter high schools in Dallas will compete at the job fair for paid summer jobs through the Mayor’s Intern Fellows Program on April 8 in Marsalis Hall at the Hyatt Regency Dallas at Reunion.

This will be an opportunity for students to experience real world job interviews with major employers like the American Airlines Center, Deloitte, Balfour Beatty, and more. If students land an internship, the program will be held June 16 through August 5. Students will work 20-40 hours per week with a minimum pay of $9 an hour.

Mayor Mike Rawlings will make an appearance to meet with students and employers between 11:45 and 12:45. The program is carried out by Dallas’ Education is Freedom (EIF), a nonprofit college-planning program that provides a team of school-based experts offering college-access programming throughout many of DISD’s high schools.

The Mayor’s Intern Fellows Program is in its eight year of providing high school students an early opportunity to gain experiences in the real world. Since starting in 2008, more than 1,400 students have participated in internships through a variety of fields including law, healthcare, marketing, public relations, technology, and more.
