Ebby Award Honors Female Philanthropists

Leigh Richter 4x6 colorOur Friends Place recently announced Leigh Richter and the National Council of Jewish Women, Greater Dallas Section, the 2016 recipients of the Ebby Award.

Ebby, who passed away last September, was famous for her support of and commitment to the women in her community. Throughout her career as the founder of Ebby Realtors, she promoted the advancement of women in the workplace, and she dedicated her time and resources to charities that benefit women and families. She was the first recipient of the eponymous Ebby Award in 2005. The award stands today in recognition of significant contributions made to the advancement of girls and women in North Texas.

Leigh Richter, senior vice president of investment and retail services at Bradford Commercial Real Estate Services in Dallas, has also championed women’s inclusion in commercial real estate. Leigh has served as board president of CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) and has served on the board of Dallas Women’s Foundation and Our Friends Place.

The National Council of Jewish Women, Greater Dallas Section develop and deliver social service programs to women, children, and families in need in Dallas. They clocked over 9,000 volunteer hours in 2015. NCJW Dallas funded the first social worker in the Dallas County jail system; initiated HIPPY, a Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters program, and Food + Fit = Fun, a bilingual program that benefits parents and children and empowers them to create a healthy lifestyle.

In honor of the Ebby Award winners, Our Friends Place will host the 13th annual Auction & Casino Night benefit at the Omni Hotel next month on April 30. The night will include a live and silent auction, gourmet dining, casino tables, music, and an open bar. Shanha Goodwyn and Diane M. Hawkins will chair the event, while Mary Frances Burleson, President of Ebby Halliday Realtors, and Suzan and Peter Fenner, philanthropists and owners of Search Real Fast, will act as honorary co-chairs.
