HPUMC Dedicates 100th Habitat Home
Highland Park United Methodist Church dedicated its 100th and 101st Dallas Habitat for Humanity homes to two Burmese refugee families on Saturday, Feb. 27.
Eh and Tha Lay and relatives Maung and Hsar Lay will now be the proud owners of neighboring homes in southeast Dallas. Per Habitat requirements, the couples and their kids completed 250 hours of “sweat equity” — or construction work — on their homes.
“As refugees, both of these families have experienced much change and instability, and the Lays are resilient and extremely deserving of this opportunity to provide a stable home for their family,” Rev. Paul Rasmussen said in a statement.
HPUMC’s Carpenters for Christ group has coordinated the church’s partnership with Habitat since 1996. In addition to the 100 Dallas homes, the group has helped build 200 houses around the world. HPUMC has contributed more than $5 million to the cause.
