Learn What It’s Like to be a Syrian Refugee

If you missed our post last week, pay attention now. The United Nations Youth Coalition is hosting its second annual youth-to-youth refuge forum this Saturday at University Park United Methodist Church at 2 p.m.

The free event is being arranged by Highland Park High School junior Pierce Lowary, the founder of the Dallas UNYC.

On the docket to speak is Sana Mustafa, an exiled Syrian activist who was forced to flee the war two years ago and who now works for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs/World Humanitarian Summit. Her immediate family lives in a refugee camp in Turkey.

Syrian refugee Yazen Kinjo, who now lives in Dallas, will talk about being forced to flee with his family when he was 11 years old.

UPUMC’s Rev. Rachel Baughman will also speak about her recent trip to Lesbos, Greece to help refugees on their journeys to Europe.

Seating is limited, so RSVP to Lowary by Friday.
