Scots Kick Off 10-6A Soccer Schedule Tonight
One team begins the District 10-6A schedule with plenty of momentum, while the other is looking for a fresh start.
Both Highland Park soccer teams begin league play tonight against North Mesquite, with the boys playing at home and the girls at Berry Middle School in Mesquite.
The Lady Scots (6-1-1) are unbeaten in their last six games, including three straight wins in which they’ve scored a combined 13 goals. Senior midfielder Savanna Jones has led the way with seven goals, all of which have come in the past five contests. In its final nondistrict tuneup, HP topped Rowlett 5-2 on Friday.
The Lady Scots didn’t lose a district game in their Class 6A debut a year ago, and eventually finished as the state runner-up. So the expectations are high again.
On the boys side, the Scots (0-7) are still looking for their first victory after losing three straight in their home tournament and four more at the Governor’s Cup tournament in Georgetown.
HP has scored only six goals this season, and it has the challenge of starting 10-6A play against the Stallions, who reached the 6A state tournament a year ago. The Scots haven’t reached the playoffs since 2013.
