Under the Mistletoe For A Good Cause

Stellaandquinn copyMistletoe isn’t just another way to get close to your loved ones. Two fourth grade Lamplighter students have found a way to make the Christmas tradition an opportunity to give back to the community.

So before you go buy your mistletoe from your regular guy, Quinn + Stella’a Jingle Bell Mistletoe will have their stands up for a third year at Highland Park Village. The kicker? HP Village has agreed to match all proceeds raised at the stands.

In 2012, when Stella Wrubel saw how Hurricane Sandy devastated New York City, she wanted to come up with a way for a kid to help. Over her Thanksgiving break, Wrubel started cutting down mistletoe, decorating it with bows and bells, and sold it in her front yard.

To her surprise, and delight, she had sold enough to raise $2,034 by Christmas that first year, which she promptly donated to the American Red Cross headquarters in New York City.

Her friend Quinn Graves joined the effort, and the two have put on their mistletoe stands each year since. In 2014, the two decided to donate the proceeds of their sales to the North Texas Food Bank, and with help from friends, they were able to raise more than $18,000.

In addition to the stands, people are encouraged to participate in the #kissandtella challenge. For full details on how you can partake in this twist on the kissing tradition, visit the website here.

This year Quinn and Stella will have their stands open at Highland Park Village at the following dates, times, and locations:
