The Jesuit offense might not be rolling at last year’s school-record pace, but the defense is a lot stingier.

The result has the Rangers alone atop the District 9-6A standings heading into tonight “Battle for the Saddle” game against rival W.T. White at Postell Stadium.

Jesuit has posted four shutouts in its seven games this season, and has blanked three of four district opponents. In 9-6A play, the Rangers (6-1, 4-0) have outscored their foes by a combined 156-21, and all 21 of those points against came versus defending champion Skyline.

Another eye-opening statistic: Jesuit allowed 57 points in its loss to Plano East in September. It’s surrendered just 48 points combined in all six of its wins.

After holding Irving and Irving Nimitz scoreless in consecutive weeks, the Rangers will put their five-game winning streak on the line against the Longhorns (4-3, 2-2), who are tied for fourth place after falling to Skyline 56-7 last week.

Dual-threat quarterback Jackson Fults is the key for the WTW offense. He has completed just 54 passes through seven games, but they have gone for an average of 21 yards each and resulted in 17 touchdowns. Rodarian Harrison is Fults’ main passing target, while Daniel Joof has notched eight rushing touchdowns. Jakari Domino and Darrell White are versatile threats for the Longhorns.

Jesuit has a balanced offensive attack led by quarterback Jacob Palisch, who has thrown for 12 touchdowns (with only one interception) and ran for five scores. Other key weapons for the Rangers include Adam Holtz and Max Loughborough on the ground, and Connor Lanpher and Rusty Landon through the air.
