Our Friends Place opened a new transitional living center for homeless women, Pauline’s Place, Oct. 16.

The apartment complex will house nine women ages 18-24 with histories of abuse, poverty and homelessness.

Pauline’s Place is Our Friends Place’s second living arrangement, the first being the Beazley House which opened in 1992. Both are located in Old East Dallas.

“The center helps develop vital, independent living skills, emphasizing education, career planning, financial management and other skills while building self-esteem and self-reliance,” said Our Friends Place president Jill Svoboda.

Residents must enroll in an educational or vocational program while working to pay a portion of their rent.

The two-story, 6,909-square-foot facility cost $1.6 million to build. Now the program is working on growing the operating endowment.

The complex was named for Sister Pauline Mullen, who was a site manager at the Beazley House for 13 years.
