Former PC Resident Celebrates 103
Not many live to see a century. Add three years and you’ve got former PC resident John Russell Tower, who celebrated his 103rd birthday on Aug. 21.
A celebration was held at his current home, Edgemere, where friends and family gathered for a good old-fashioned birthday party–complete with presents and a birthday cake. But guests came for more than fun and food; they came for the kind and gentle guest of honor.
Originally from Weymouth, Massachusetts, Tower has lived in many places, from Colorado–where he earned his degree in petroleum engineering from the Colorado School of Mines–to Germany–as a part of the Army Occupation following WWII–finally, landing in Dallas.
In 1941, he married Grace Louise Roos. While WWII forced them to spend some time apart, Tower’s wife joined him in Germany as soon as the war ended. Over time the couple raised five children and Tower continued to pursue his engineering career in various places. The couple called PC home for many years.
Now, Tower lives with his two cats, Ala and Bama, and can be often found living the good life, curled up enjoying a good book.
