HPMS Teacher Honored as Teacher of Year
Highland Park Middle School teacher Jean Streepey was honored as Region 10 Secondary Teacher of the Year during a luncheon for top educators on Aug. 12. Streepey teaches seventh-grade math at HPMS and has taught in Highland Park ISD for nine years. With this honor, she is in the running for Texas Teacher of the Year, which is awarded by the Texas Association of School Administrators. It’s the state’s highest honor for a teacher.
“To receive this distinction is more than I could possibly ever imagine,” she said.
Kendra Davison was also named one of three finalists in the elementary division. She is a third-grade teacher at University Park Elementary School and has taught at the campus since 2008.
“It is apparent that these two teachers bring a special touch to their classrooms each and every day,” superintendent Tom Trigg said. The duo will will address faculty and staff at the superintendent’s convocation on Aug. 17. Video from their speeches will be on YouTube shortly after.
Region 10 encompasses 80 school districts, including HPISD. That totals about 50,000 educators. Streepey and Davison were both chosen by HPISD faculty as Teacher of the Year for the secondary level (grades 7-12) and elementary level (grades 1-6) respectively. That qualified for them to represent the district within the region.
