Author Shares Tales of Southfork Glory Days
Preston Hollow author Doug Box has some unique stories to tell from his childhood, part of which was spent on a certain Collin County ranch that became the setting for a certain famous television show in the 1980s.
Sound familiar? Box will make a presentation and sign copies of his memoir Cutter Frisco: Growing Up on the Original Southfork Ranch, tonight at the Barnes & Noble at Preston Royal.
Box’s father, Cloyce, was rumored to be the inspiration for J.R. Ewing on “Dallas.” His life on the ranch came with plenty of glamorous Southern grandeur, featuring visits from pro athletes, television personalities, and other celebrities.
Cloyce died in 1993, while the Southfork house was being rebuilt after a fire. Frank Gifford wrote a eulogy that appears in Doug’s book. The frame for that house has since been moved to Frisco, and the Box family sold the ranch several years later along with Doug’s beloved horse, Cutter Frisco.
Tonight’s event gets under way at 6:30 p.m., and it’s part of the store’s Throwback Thursday summer series.
